How to manually back up your Internet Information Services 6.0 Configuration
Backing up your IIS 6.0 configuration
Before making any major site changes or in preparation of the deployment of new websites, backing up the current configuration of your websites in Internet Information Services is always a good practice. This article will walk you through manually backing up your IIS settings.
1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) by navigating to Start à Programs à Administrative Tools à Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

2. Once opened, right-click on the computer name, and navigate to All Tasks, and choose the option for Backup/Restore Configuration.

3. The Backup/Restore Configuration window will show you all backups which have been created, including automatically created backups. Clock on the option for Create.

4. Enter a name for the backup set, and click OK. If you wish to encrypt the backup set, place a check mark next to Encrypt backup using password, and enter your desired password before clicking OK.

5. The backup set has now been created. You can restore the backup at any time by navigating to the Backup/Restore Configuration dialog box using the above steps, selecting the backup file you would like to restore from, and choosing the option for Restore in the above window.
