Configuring an IMAP Email Account for iPhone

Setting up a users email account on an iPhone with SmarterMail.

Setting up an IMAP connection

  1. On the iPhone, open the Settings menu.
  2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account.
  4. Select Other.
  5. Select Add Mail Account.
  6. Add your information into the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Make sure you have chosen IMAP.
  9. Enter the information for your incoming mail server:
    1. Normally your hostname is mail.yourdomainname.com. If you aren’t sure, contact Technical Support for the information
    2. Enter your full email address in the username field
    3. Your password is the same as the one used to log into the mail account on the server.
  10. Enter the information for your outgoing mail server:
    1. Normally your hostname is mail.yourdomainname.com. If you aren’t sure, contact Technical Support for the information
    2. Enter your full email address in the username field
    3. Your password is the same as the one used to log into the mail account on the server.
  11. Select Save.
  12. You will then be prompted to establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers. when this fails, you will see the prompt, “Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?”
    1. Select No.
    2. Select Save.
    3. You will be prompted, “This account may not be able to send or receive emails. Are you sure you want to save,” select Save.
  13. Select the account you just added which will see the new email address you just set up
  14. Scroll down and select the SMTP button.
  15. Choose the server you just added, identified by the hostname you select above.
  16. Make sure use SSL is turned Off.
  17. Select Password for Authentication
  18. Select Server Port 25.
  19. Select the SMTP button to go back.
  20. Select your email address to go back.
  21. Choose Advanced.
  22. Scroll down to Incoming Settings.
  23. Make sure use SSL is turned Off.
  24. Select Password for Authentication.
  25. Select Server Port 143.
  26. Select your email address to go back.
  27. Select Mail to go back.
  28. Press the Home button.
  29. Select the Mail App to check your configuration
