How to password protect a section of your website

This article shows you how to password protect a section of your website.

You can secure certain sections or folders of your website with a password prompt.

First, we must create the username and password to protect the folder.

Log into your HELM control panel.

Click the domains icon from the user's menu and select the domain from the list.

Under the Domain Menu, click the FTP Accounts icon.

Add a new FTP account with the desired user name and password you want to use to enter the protected section of your site.

Choose the folder that should be protected under "FTP Folder".

Leave only the "Can Read From Folder" option checked.

Uncheck the "Can Write to Folder" option, unless you also want to grant these users write access to the folder.

Click Save to add the user account.

Log into your VPS or dedicated server via Remote Desktop. (Note: Shared customers will have to submit a support ticket to complete this part)

See this article on how to connect to your server through Remote Desktop.

Open the IIS manager (Start -> Administrative Tools -> IIS Manager) and browse to your website folder.

Right click on the folder and choose properties.

Click the Directory Security tab, then click the Edit button for "Authentication and access control".

Uncheck "Enabled anonymous access", and Check "Basic authentication", click OK.

Browse to the secure folder URL and test the login.
