Configuring your personal name servers

Every Virtual and Dedicated server purchased from Server Intellect runs its own DNS Server and includes 2 utility name servers. These name servers can be used for any domain you wish to point to your server. If you wish to use your company’s domain instead of the utility domain, you may do so.

In order to set up your own personal name servers, you will first have to register your domain as a name server through your domain registrar. Once that is completed, you can finish the set up through your servers HELM control panel.

First, log into HELM.

Click the System Settings icon.

Click the Servers icon.

Select your server.

Click on “Default DNS Service”.

Toward the bottom of the screen you will see your 2 default utility name servers. It is highly recommended that you leave these name servers attached to your server(as many of your services already use them). You can, however, edit them and uncheck “default name server address” (shown later).

To add your custom name server, click “Add New”. Fill in the information requested:

Name Server = your custom name server. Example: ns1.yourdomain.com
IP Address = You may use any IP address listed, however, it is recommended that you use the original IP addresses used by the utility name servers.
