How to change the Hostname in SmarterMail

This article provides a walkthrough for changing the mail server Hostname in SmarterMail.

Changing the Hostname in SmarterMail is quickly and easily accomplished by following a few steps.

First, log in to SmarterMail as 'admin'.

Then, click on the 'Settings' button at the top of the page.

On the left-hand menu, click on 'General Settings'.

Within the General Settings page, click on the tab which says, 'Server Info'.

The first field within the Server Info tab is the 'Hostname' field, where you can enter the updated hostname. Once entered, click 'Save', and the hostname is now updated.

If you are planning to change the Hostname in SmarterMail to a specific domain, we highly recommened also submitting a support ticket requesting that the Reverse DNS entry for the mail server IP address also be updated to the new hostname, due the fact that if the hostname of the mail server and Reverse DNS entry for the mail server IP address do not match, it can lead to outgoing mail from your server being marked as spam.

If you have any questions regarding this procedure, please don't hesitate to contact our Technical Support Department, and they will be more than happy to assist.
