How do I reset my SmarterStats admin password

How to reset the SmarterStats admin password

Should your SmarterStats Administrator password ever become lost, misplaced, or compromised, it can be easily reset by following these instructions.

Click Start, and then Run. In the Run dialog box, copy and paste the following italicized line of text:

C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterStats\MRS\Config

Once entered, click OK. An Explorer window should open up to that specific directory.

Locate the file named, ‘AppConfig.xml’. Once located, right-click the file, and from the pop-up menu, select Open With, and choose Notepad to edit the file.

Now, we need to remove the two lines which contain the administrator login information. They should look similiar to the following:

Erase the two lines of code outlined in red, but only those two lines. Making any other changes to this file may cause SmarterStats to malfunction. When finished, the file should appear like this:

Once the two lines in question have been removed, save the changes by clicking File and then Save. Once saved, close the file.

Now, the SmarterStats service must be restarted for the changes to take effect. Navigate to Start à Administrative Tools à Services.

Locate SmarterStats Service in the list. Once located, right-click the service and choose Restart. You will see a dialogue box confirming the restart.

Once the service has been restarted, you can log into SmarterStats and set a password. You can get to SmarterStats by either double-clicking the icon on your server’s desktop, or opening up a web browser and logging using ‘admin’ as both the Username, SiteID, and password.

Once logged in, navigate to Setting à General Settings.

You should now see a field with which to reset your SmarterStats admin password. Please note this password change for your records. Also, please be sure to update your Helm Control Panel with the new SmarterStats password or you will be unable to add statistics to your sites in Helm.
