Adding and Removing Roles and Features
How to Add and Remove Roles from Windows 2008 Server.
The Windows 2008 Server Manager makes managing and securing multiple server roles an easy task. It centralizes the servers Roles and Features in one location.
Roles range from Active Directory, IIS, DNS, Hyper-V, and many more.
To add or remove a Role or Feature, right click on Computer and select "Manage". This brings up the Server Manager.
In this article, we will add the DNS role to the server. All Roles and Features can be installed using the same steps.

To begin, highlight "Roles" on the left. Click the "Add Roles". (to remove a role, click Remove Roles)

This brings up the Add Roles Wizard. The first screen provides some basic information. Click "Next".

The following screen presents the different roles that can be installed. For this article, we'll select the "DNS Server" role and click "Next".

On this screen, the Wizard provides a description of the role being installed, as well as useful additional information. Click "Next".

The next page will ask you to confirm the installion. Click "Install".

Wait for the installation to complete.

When the installation is finished, it will provide the results of the installation

If the server asks you to reboot, proceed.
Once completed, you can begin using your new server role. Adding another role, or feature, would be processed the same way.
