If a client wishes to create their own custom nameservers, perhaps using their business domain name, then they are more then welcome to do so as long as they are hosted on a dedicated server or private cloud hosting environment.
To accomplish this you will need to first select the IP addresses that will be used for these records, then take the following steps:
1) Log in to the DNS manager that is part of your server’s operating system. You can do this by logging in to the server via remote desktop and navigating to “Start” > “Administrative Tools” > “DNS”.
Add an “A” record with exactly the following information:
IP: (Enter in the first of your IP addresses)
Then add a second “A” record:
IP: (Enter in the second of the IP addresses)
2) Once the “A” records are created you will want to log in to the control panel where the domain is registered (which may or may not be through Server Intellect). Once logged in you will want to locate the portion of the site that will allow you to create custom nameservers. Using the IP addresses that you just used to create the nameserver records on your server, you will want to follow your registrar’s instructions as to how to accomplish that.
If your domain is registered with Server Intellect then you can submit a support ticket so that they can assist with this request.
Please note that the “A” records that you create will take 24-48 hours for full global propagation, so this will not be an instant result.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
