How to Set File Upload/Download Size Limits in IIS 6?

When trying to upload files over 200KB on IIS 6, the file may never upload and you either get an error or are sent to a blank screen. By default, Windows 2003 Server limits file uploads to about 200KB in size. To overcome this limit, you must edit the IIS MetaBase.xml file.

To increase the File Upload Size Limit, run the following command (will increase the limit to 10MB):

cscript C:\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs set w3svc/ASPMaxRequestEntityAllowed 10484880

To increase the File Download Size Limit, run the following command (will increase the limit to 10MB):

cscript C:\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs set w3svc/AspBufferingLimit 10484880

You must reset IIS to make the changes take effect. You can do this by navigating to ‘Start –> Run’, typing ‘CMD’ and pressing enter. Once inside the command prompt, simply type ‘iisreset’ and press enter. IIS will restart, and show confirmation when it has restarted.
