How do I Reset my SmarterStats Admin Password

Option 1

Log into your server through Remote Desktop.

Click on Start > then Run

In the run dialog box type in the following with out the quotes.

“notepad.exe C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\MailConfig.xml”

Click the OK button.

Delete the Sysadmin lines as indicated from the configuration file and save.

Go the your administrative tools and open the Windows Services list.

Stop and restart the SmarterMail Service.

Open http://mail.yourdomain.com/ in your web browser. Log into SmarterMail with username: admin and password: admin.

Click on Settings > General Settings.

Select the Administrator tab. Enter your new password and click save.

Note: Please remember when updating your SmarterMail password to update it in your Helm Configuration as well. You can follow the instructions here for more information on updating your SmarterMail password in Helm.

Option 2

Log on to the server hosting SmarterStats.

Open My Computer

Navigate to the SmarterStats installation directory. By default, this is ‘C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterStats\’.

Open the MRS folder.

Open the Config folder.

Right-click on the AppConfig.xml file and choose Open With, and then Choose Program. Select NotePad and open the file.

Under the Settings section, delete the SmarterStatsPassword and SmarterStatsPasswordEnc lines.

Click File and Save the open file. Close Notepad.

Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools. Click Services.

Right-click on SmarterStats Service and select Restart.

You should now be able to log into the SmarterStats login page with the following:

  • Site ID: admin
  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin

Be sure to change your password after logging in under Settings > General Settings.
