Start SQL Server Management Studio. If you do not have a copy of SQL Server Management Studio, you can download the free Express Edition directly from Microsoft. The current version, SQL Server Management Studio 2014, is compatible with MS SQL 2005, 2008, 2012, and 2014
Fill in the database connection information:
- Server Name: the name or IP of the database server. You also must include “,PORT’ after the IP or name to specify an alternate port (e.g. “,2433”).
- Authentication: should be “SQL Server Authentication” by default.
- Login: the username you have set up for the database.
- Password: the password you have set up for the user.
To connect to a specific database only, click on the “Options” button. Click on the “Connection Properties” tab. Type in the name of the database. Please note it is required that you specify the database for most MS SQL 2014 connections.
