How do I Restore a Database Backup using SQL Server Management Studio?

Connect to the database server with SQL Server Management Studio.

Expand Databases.

Right click on your database.

Select Tasks -> Restore -> Database.

Select From device.

Click the small gray ‘…’ box.

Click Add.

Enter the path and file of the backup, or browse to it in the navigation pane.

Click Ok.

Click Ok again.

Check the checkbox under the column Restore next to the desired restore point.

Click Options in the left pane.

Check Overwrite the existing database.

Click OK. (This may take a few moments)

Expand Security.

Expand Logins.

Right-click on the username associated with the restored database.

Click Properties.

Click User Mapping on the top-left.

Locate your database in top-right window pane list and ensure the checkbox is checked next to it.

Ensure the db_owner checkbox is checked in the bottom window pane.

Click OK.
