Enabling the ASP.NET Session State for your SQL Server databases is available across all platforms of our service.
Please note that for Dedicated, Private Cloud and Legacy Virtual Server customers, this process can be completed without the need for interaction with a support technician, however for Public Cloud and Legacy Shared Hosting customers, the process will need to be completed by a support technician, and we do apologize for the inconvenience.
For Dedicated, Private Cloud and Legacy Virtual Server customers, the procedure is as follows:
First, you will want to log into your server via Remote Desktop.
Once connected, open up SQL Server Managment Studio, and connect with either Windows Authentication or the SQL Server ‘sa’ credentials.
Once Managment Studio is open, open Windows Explorer, and navigate to the following physical folder on the server:

Once you have navigated to the correct folder, open the file named ‘InstallSqlState.sql‘. It will automatically open the file as a new query in Management Studio.
In the drop-down box at the top of the window, select the database you wish to install the Session State to, and click ‘Execute‘.
The query will run, and should display a ‘Query executed successfully’ message at the bottom of the window.
Once this is done, you will need to navigate to your site’s ‘web.config’ file, and input the following lines, setting the values within the carats to your specific database information:
<sessionState mode="SQLServer" sqlConnectionString="data source=<database server IP address>,2433;user id=<username>;password=<strongpassword>" cookieless="false" timeout="20" />
Once done, this should fully enable ASP.NET Session state for your database.
For Public Cloud and Legacy Shared Hosting customers, you will be able to input the lines above into your site’s ‘web.config’ file, however you will need to enter a support ticket for a technician to run the ‘InstallSqlState.sql‘ script against the database.
