A self-signed certificate does not show as being trusted by a root Certificate Authority or CA. As such, it will generate a warning and a red bar in Internet Explorer to let you know that the certificate is not trusted.
In order to trust the certificate and remove this warning you can perform the following steps:
Pull up the website in IE, you should see this error.
Select to continue then click on “Certificate Error” at the top right.
Now select to view “Certificates”
Click on the “Install Certificate” button.
Click “Next” at the welcome screen.
Now select “Place all certificates in the following store” then browse for and select the “Trusted Root Certificates Authorities” and click OK then Next and finally Finish.
You should now be able to browse to the site securely with Internet Explorer and no longer receive certificate errors.
