As the next version of the TCP/IP Protocol, version 6, is slowly but surely coming into the mainstream, servers running Windows Server 2003 will be unable to use it by default, however it is easily installed on the Operating System.
First, we need to open the properties of the Network Connection by navigating to ‘Start –> Control Panel’. Right-click on the ‘Control Panel‘ folder, and choose ‘Open‘.
Once the Control Panel is open, double-click on the ‘Network Connections‘ icon.
Right-click on ‘Local Area Connection‘, and choose ‘Properties‘.
On the Properties window, click the button which says ‘Install‘.
For the type of Network Component to install, choose ‘Protocol‘, and click ‘Add‘.
The first option available should be ‘Microsoft TCIP/IP version 6‘. Select it and click OK.
It will take a few moments to install, however once complete, you will now see it available as an installed protocol within the Network Card properties.
